Vista L.A. attended the unveiling of "The Wall of Honor" in downtown's El Pueblo Historical District.

The Wall pays tribute to all U.S. Medal of Honor recipients and is part of a larger memorial project inspired by Eugene A. Obregon, a young soldier from East Los Angeles who died in battle saving the life of his comrade, Bert Johnson.

The memorial site is still raising funds for its final piece, a monument depicting Obregon shielding his wounded friend.

Vista L.A. spoke with Obregon Foundation Founder William Lansford, Los Angeles Councilmember Jose Huizar and World War II veterans Pete Limon and Bill Sanchez about Obregon and other military heroes.
