F-22 jet wreck found near Alaska national park

ANCHORAGE, Alaska Air traffic control lost contact with the plane shortly after takeoff at 7:40 p.m. PT Tuesday.

The jet's pilot had not been located by 3 p.m. Wednesday. A rescue team was still searching for the pilot.

Search-and-rescue aircraft, including three helicopters and a cargo plane, had been searching for the downed jet.

The jet had been flying a nighttime training run.

F-22s only have room for the pilot onboard. The pilot of the missing jet was not identified.

The plane is assigned to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson third wing.
