Pasadena shuts 2 schools due to lack of funds

PASADENA, Calif. Loma Alta and Burbank elementary schools will close at the end of the school year.

The district was able to keep a third school open, Jackson Elementary School, after the state restored $5 million in funding for the 2011-12 school year.

The school board president said keeping Loma Alta and Burbank elementary schools open would have stretched district resources too thin.

The board is also considering whether to move the district office to save money.
