The 20-year-old has fended off criticism by many viewers who say the popularity or backing of her mother Sarah Palin and the conservative Tea Party movement is the reason she and partner Mark Ballas have not been voted off the competition despite having received some of the lowest scores of the current 11th season.
"I'd be over the moon with one 10," Bristol Palin told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I really would."
Singer Brandy was booted from "Dancing With the Stars" on Tuesday. The other two celebrity finalists remaining are actress Jennifer Grey and actor Kyle Massey. The elimination drew anger from many viewers, including Steven N. Cowan, a 66-year-old man from Wisconsin, who reportedly fired a single-shot shotgun at his television after watching the episode.
Police charged him with second-degree reckless endangerment and say he had been under stress because of his financial situation and was being treated for a mental health problem. Cowan's wife, Janice, told the Wisconsin State Journal that her husband had been drinking.Ballas has said he thinks he and Bristol Palin are still in the contest because viewers can relate to her because she had no prior dance experience before the show.
"People are seeing an improvement, they're seeing a journey, they're seeing growth," he said. "I also think normal people at home, when they come home from their jobs, come home to their families, sit in their living room, tune into 'Dancing With the Stars' on Monday nights, they watch and they say, 'That's what I'd be like. That's exactly how I would be."
Bristol Palin has been a tabloid favorite ever since her Republican mother's 2008 vice presidential campaign, during which she was pregnant with her son Tripp at age 18 and out of wedlock.
The winner of the 11th season of "Dancing With the Stars" will be announced on Tuesday, November 24, after one finale round of performances.
