Denis Leary is in talks to play the father of Emma Stone's character, Gwen Stacy, in the upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The comedian and "Rescue Me" star will reportedly play police captain George Stacy. The film begins shooting in December.

It was reported last month that Martin Sheen is in final negotiation to play Uncle Ben while "Brothers & Sisters" star Sally Field "in early talks" for the role of Aunt May. The characters are surrogate parents to Peter Parker and Uncle Ben's murder plays a key part in the hero's mythology.

Rhys Ifans of "Notting Hill" fame, has been tapped to play an unnamed villain, though rumor has it he will be playing the role of The Lizard, aka Dr. Curt Connor.

In the Marvel comic books, Connors, a scientist, ingests a serum made from reptilian DNA, which causes an arm he lost in a blast during his army service to grow back and transforms him into a reptilian humanoid monster.

"What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker," director Marc Webb had said in a statement provided by Columbia Pictures. "Rhys' incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character."

The new "Spider-Man"' reboot will be helmed by "500 Days of Summer" director Marc Webb. The movie is set to hit theaters on July 3, 2012.
