Richard Avedon auction in Paris reaps $7.5M

PARIS Auctioneers at Christie's said an oversized print of the 1955 photograph showing model Dovima with elephants was the top earner, garnering $1.15 million alone.

Also sold was the 1967 psychedelic-toned four-frame picture of the Beatles, which sold for $608,000.

Sixty-five of Avedon's prints were up for auction Saturday, which was the largest auction of works by the late photographer who died in 2004.

The auction was aimed to raise funds for the Richard Avedon Foundation.
