Taylor Momsen will reportedly remain largely absent from the CW teen drama series "Gossip Girl," although the original cast member has not quit or been fired from the show.

The network and the 17-year-old actress have not commented on the reports. Momsen plays Jenny Humphrey, a teenage New York socialite who has not been seen much throughout this past fourth season.

Momsen's character dons heavy eye makeup and is seen as a loner but potential leader. She was "exiled" from the city by Blair Waldorf, a college student and higher-ranking member of its young elite population portrayed by Leighton Meester.

Momsen, who is also the singer of rock band The Pretty Reckless, has starred on "Gossip Girl" since it began in 2007. Deadline.com reported Momsen has been "increasingly volatile" and will be absent from at least four episodes beginning with the show's midseason finale on December 6.

Momsen's absence so far was a "creative decision," E! News said, adding that Momsen is "not going anywhere" and is contracted through the seventh season of the show.

Tim Gunn of the fashion reality series "Project Runaway" recently guest starred on the show and slammed Momsen's behavior on the set, saying that she spent too much time on her phone between takes. She has not commented on the incident.

"If you weren't Blackberrying, you could memorize these lines," he said on the talk show "Lopez Tonight" in September. "We were doing a different take for every single line that she had and she acted annoyed at the crew and the director and the producer. I thought, 'The annoyance is going your way, not the other way.'"

"If you're so unhappy here, there must be thousands of people who are as attractive as you and as talented as you who would like to have your role," he added.

Prior to starring on "Gossip Girl", Momsen played Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 film "'How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and the president's daughter in the 2002 movie "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams".
