Christian Bale says that he will don the Batman suit for the last time in the upcoming film "The Dark Knight Rises", the third in Christopher Nolan's series.
The 36-year-old British actor played Batman and the superhero's alter ego, Bruce Wayne, in Nolan's previous films, "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight", the latter of which starred the late Heath Ledger as the sinister Joker.
"The thing is, that this will be, I believe, unless Chris says different, the last time I'll be playing Batman," Bale told E! News in a recent video interview to promote his new movie, "The Fighter".
"The Dark Knight" has made more than $1.1 billion worldwide since it was released in 2008 and Ledger earned a posthumous Oscar for his chilling performance. Michael Caine, 77, is also expected to reprise his role as Wayne's assistant, Alfred, in "The Dark Knight Rises".
The villain for the "The Dark Knight Rises" has not been revealed and Nolan has said it will not be the Riddler. Nolan and his brother are penning the screenplay for the third "Batman" movie, which is set for release on July 20, 2012. Nolan has also said the film will not be shot in 3D.
