Man charged with releasing cruise ship anchor

Thousand Oaks resident Rick Ehlert, 44, was arrested and charged with attempting to damage a vessel and endangering a ship's safe navigation after dropping anchor on a moving cruise ship while he was drunk.

A Southern California man is facing charges of attempting to damage a vessel and endangering a ship's safe navigation after dropping anchor on a moving cruise ship while he was drunk.It happened Saturday on the Holland America's MS Ryndam cruise from Costa Maya, Mexico to Tampa, Fla.

An FBI affidavit says Thousand Oaks resident Rick Ehlert, 44, admitted to entering a restricted area, putting on work gloves and releasing the rear anchor.

Ehlert is in custody facing federal charges.

The ship was not damaged.
