Hayes was condemned to death by a jury on Nov. 8 for the brutal 2007 killings.
Hayes sexually assaulted and strangled Hawke-Petit. Hayes and another defendant, Joshua Komisarjevsky, tied the two girls to their beds and set the home on fire, according to officials.
Komisarjevsky is set to go on trial next year.
