Ben Sherwood named ABC News president

Ben Sherwood, award-winning journalist and author, has been named the new president of ABC News.

Ben Sherwood has been named the new president of ABC News, according to Disney/ABC Television Group. Sherwood is an award-winning journalist. He also is the author of two best-selling novels, "The Man Who Ate the 747" and "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud."

Sherwood will be responsible for all editorial, programming and digital aspects of ABC News programs.

"Ben's proven success in the news business, along with his entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and keen intellect make him the ideal choice to lead ABC News into the future," said Anne Sweeney, co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television Group.

"It's a great honor and privilege to be asked to lead this amazing news organization and I am humbled by the opportunity," said Sherwood. "For more than 20 years, I've known firsthand of the passion, excellence and integrity of the people who work for ABC News."

Disney is the parent company of KABC-TV.
