OTRC: Elisabeth Hasselbeck criticizes Sarah Palin over school lunch bill

Elisabeth Hasselbeck appears on ABC talk show 'The View' on Dec. 2, 2010.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a conservative host on the ABC talk show "The View" recently slammed Republican politician Sarah Palin for opposing a school lunch bill.

U.S. lawmakers on Thursday passed a $4.5 billion bill that would ban unhealthy food from schools in a bid to combat child obesity. The legislation is backed by First Lady Michelle Obama, but Palin, the former governor of Alaska who is seen as a likely 2012 presidential candidate, says parents should be responsible for their children's nutrition.

"I don't think it's right on either side of the aisle particularly when it deals with children's health," Hasselbeck, said in a recent episode of "The View". "I think this money should be spent but it should be monitored."

The 33-year-old former "Survivor" contestant is a mother to daughter Grace, 5, and sons Taylor and Isaiah, who are 3 and 1. Hasselbeck, who supported Palin as Republican John McCain's running mate in the 2008 presidential election, said Palin's "mistake" was not taking into account the numerous parents who do not pack lunches for their children.

Co-host Barbara Walters teased Hasselbeck for her brief political shift, saying: "I would like it to be noted. On this day ... Elisabeth Hasselbeck said something that was not positive about Sarah Palin."
