A German man was arrested Thursday, accused of smuggling hundreds of live tarantulas into Los Angeles.

"Operation Spiderman," as authorities are now calling it, began with a routine search of a package from Germany. Hundreds of the spiders were discovered inside.

In a sting, wildlife officers posed as customers trying to buy more spiders from the man, who was then arrested.

If convicted of wildlife smuggling, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison.
