Sofia Vergara, who plays Ed O'Neill's bombshell Colombian wife on the ABC comedy series "Modern Family", may soon become the new face of discount retail chain Kmart, according to a report.
The 38-year-old actress and the company, which is owned by Sears Holding Corporation and which operates at least 1,320 stores in the United States, have not commented.
Fox News quoted a New York Post report that said Vergara is in talks to sign an $8 million deal to appear in ad campaigns for Kmart and create for it a line of apparel and hair and beauty products.
"Modern Family", which began in 2009, is one of ABC's most popular shows. In August, it won six Emmys, including the award for "Outstanding Comedy Series".
Kmart had struggled financially over the past few years and filed for bankruptcy in 2002 before it merged with Sears. Kmart features Sears brands such as Kenmore and Lands' End as well as apparel endorsed by teen pop star and actress Selena Gomez.
