Hydrant sheared in West Hollywood 4-car crash

A four-car accident left part of a major roadway closed and water spewing from a sheared hydrant in West Hollywood on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010.

A four-car accident left part of a major roadway closed and water spewing from a sheared hydrant in West Hollywood on Friday morning.The crash scene spans half a block. The eastbound lanes of Santa Monica Boulevard have been shut down at North Westbourne Drive.

Authorities said the accident started at North Westbourne Drive. One of the cars continued east on Santa Monica Boulevard, hitting a hydrant, shearing it off and sending water shooting up.

The car landed at the entrance of a parking structure.

One person was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, and one other person suffered minor injuries.
