OTRC: Jeff Bridges back in the game with 'TRON: Legacy'

Jeff Bridges talks to OnTheRedCarpet.com about 'Tron: Legacy.' (OTRC)

Jeff Bridges says he was "sucked into a computer" while playing "TRON" character Kevin Flynn.

In the movie, the sequel to the 1982 film set for release on December 17, Flynn, a programmer, and his tech-savvy son, portrayed by Garret Hedlund, try to escape from the patriarch's computer code, where the elder Flynn has been trapped for 20 years. The two are helped by a warrior, played by Olivia Wilde.

At the time of its release, the original "TRON" was one of the first films released by a major studio to use extensive computer graphics and obviously the new movie will benefit from the additional improvements in technology.

"I was just curious as an actor what it would be like to make a movie without a camera and that's what 'performance-capture' is all about," Bridges told George Pennacchio of KABC Television, OnTheRedCarpet.com's parent company. "You're literally sucked into a computer, you're scanned and then you drive this younger version of yourself. It was quite amazing."

Bridges also talked about his relationship with Hedlund, during filming. "I think when I first met him, he reminded me of a younger version of myself. You know like he could be my son," the actor said. "We have a similar look about us. I certainly enjoyed him."

Technology and design were certainly important to the movie's original director and writer Steven Lisberger, Bridges says, adding that "TRON: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski brought new elements to the franchise.

"With Joe, he was bringing his being an architect to the film, so it's got wonderful design qualities to the movie," Bridges said about the first-time director.

Bridges also star in the Coen brothers movie "True Grit," which is set for release on December 22 and follows a tough U.S. Marshal as he helps a stubborn young woman track down her father's murderer.
