Police say an officer was approaching a man in an alley near the 1100 block of Poplar Street when he tried attacking the officer with a knife.
That officer then opened fire, hitting the man. He later died at Western Medical Center.
There is no word on the suspect's identity or if he was a gang member. Police said a knife believed to belong to the suspect was recovered at the scene.
