Sheriff's report: Homicides down in LA County

LOS ANGELES According to the /*Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department*/, there were 169 homicides reported between November 2009 and November 2010. That's 22 homicides less than the previous 12-month period.

Still, the number of murders increased in some areas. The Temple station reported a 76 percent rise.

The Carson station reported a 65 percent increase and the number of homicides also went up in East Los Angeles, Lakewood and San Dimas.

The report details reported crime statistics for the unincorporated communities and 42 contract cities policed by the sheriff's department and includes numbers for this year, last year and 2005.
