FedEx hits busiest shipping day of the year

December 13, 2010 12:01:22 AM PST
Monday is the busiest day of the year for FedEx. The company said it expects 16 million packages to go through their system by day's end.For the overall holiday season, FedEx is expecting a total volume increase of about 11 percent compared to 2009. The jump is in part due to more online purchases and e-commerce, according to FedEx senior manager Dane Worley.

If you want a package delivered by Christmas, the FedEx deadline for ground and home delivery service is Friday.

When a resident is not home at the time of delivery, even if the package does not require a signature, some deliverymen will not leave it.

"We'll come back two or three times in a day if we have to, but we want to make sure you secure that package," said Marcus Rabb, a FedEx driver.

UPS said it expected to deliver about 430 million packages around the world between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The busiest day of the year for UPS is Dec. 22.
