A passing driver lost control on the slick road, hit a barrier and then slid into the original accident scene.
The officer and the man he was helping were pinned between the car and a concrete barrier.
Both were taken to the hospital. They are reportedly doing fine.
Officials said slick, icy roads were partly to blame for the crash.
