Selena Gomez says she and teen pop idol Justin Bieber are not dating, despite reports that surfaced in recent days after the singers were spotted and photographed having breakfast at an IHOP restaurant.
Bieber, 16, is so popular that he usually has scores of female fans following him around. Some sent death threats to reality star Kim Kardashian after she and Bieber posted for an Elle magazine photoshoot over the summer.
Gomez, 18, plays Alex on the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place" and recently made her big film debut in the movie "Ramona and Beezus".
"It was pancakes," Gomez told MTV News magazine at radio station Z100's recent Jingle Ball in New York. "Who doesn't like pancakes? We were both performing in the same place so we went and had pancakes together. That's all it is. All innocent."
She echoed her comments to People magazine, saying: "People ask me, you know, if we have friends in the business, friends who aren't in the business, and I say yeah, I'm very lucky I have friends who are in it. We're very lucky, but we just like to hang out. They shouldn't be stopping us from going out to dinner and things like that."
The Wildlife Conservation Society named a beaver after Bieber, who has, in the past year, made his acting debut on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", released a rap video and a memoir and inspired a line of nail polish. He is set to release a movie about his life called "Never Say Never", which is due to hit theaters on February 11.
