Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have split and have decided to end their marriage.
Johansson, a 26-year-old New York native who starred in "Lost in Translation" and "Iron Man 2", and Reynolds, a 34-year-old Canadian actor who can be seen next year in "Green Lantern", wed in September 2008 in Vancouver, B.C. after dating for about a year. They have no children.
"After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage," Reynolds' spokesperson quoted the actor as saying. "We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated."
Johansson has not commented. Reynolds was named "Sexiest man Alive" of 2010 by People magazine in November while Johansson was voted "Babe of the Year" by GQ magazine.
Reynolds began his career in Canada, starring in locally-produced television shows. He rose to fame in the United States with a main part in the sitcom "Two Guys and a Girl" from 1998 to 2001 and later nabbed the title role in the raunchy comedy movie "Van Wilder", which starred Tara Reid.
In "Green Lantern", which hits theaters on June 17, 2011 and is based on the DC comic book, Reynolds plays a superhero who uses a power ring that concerts his ideas and willpower into energy as he tries to fight evil.
Johansson is set to reprise her"Iron Man 2" role as the Black Widow and her alter-ego Natasha Romanoff in the spinoff film "The Avengers", set for release on May 4, 2012.
