NC mom, infant rescued from fiery SUV crash

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. When Kathy Lamberth hit a tree, her legs became stuck under the dashboard, and her 3-week-old son was strapped to the car seat behind her.

Lamberth reached around and prepared to throw the car seat with the baby out of the SUV.

That's when firemen showed up.

"I thought, as long as he made it I was happy. I was terrified and I was happy to see them. They were our guardian angels," Lamberth said.

Members of the community volunteer fire department happened to be at a Christmas party at their station less than 100 feet away.

The lucky mom and baby escaped unharmed.
