LA fire center renamed after retiring chief

The Los Angeles County Fire Department's command center was renamed Thursday in honor of retiring chief, P. Michael FreemanFreeman is credited with developing the department's urban search and rescue and swift water rescue programs.

The department has grown robustly under his leadership, as it serves an expanding number of unincorporated areas and small cities.

"It is honestly an honor to have my name on this facility because it represents all of the men and women who have served, serve today and who will continue to serve," Freeman said.

Freeman thanked county officials for recognizing the fire department's service to the area.
