Michelle Williams, who appears with Ryan Gosling in the R-rated film "Blue Valentine", has reportedly said she felt like a "mobster" when she starred in the teen drama series "Dawson's Creek".

Williams, 30, played Jen, who was one of the many loves of the main character, Dawson, portrayed by James Van Der Beek. The WB series ran between 1998 and 2003.

Katie Holmes, who played Dawson's ex-girlfriend Joey, who often sparred with Jen, on Wednesday announced Williams' Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for her role in "Blue Valentine". (See a full list of the 2011 Golden Globe Award nominees).

"I said to a friend, being on 'Dawson's Creek' was kind of like being a mobster," PopEater quoted Williams as saying. "You set up a shop selling pizza but in the back you're laundering money. You're doing one thing in plain sight and secretly plotting something else. I was plotting my tastes, my interests, my beliefs and hopes for what I could be."

After "Dawson's Creek" ended, Williams went on to star in films such as "Brokeback Mountain" in 2005, acting alongside her then-real-life boyfriend, the late Heath Ledger. She was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting role. "Blue Valentine" depicts the life of a married couple during various time periods and was initially given an NC-17 rating. It was reduced to an R earlier this month, which would allow it to be screened in more theaters. It is set for release at the end of December.

Williams also recently filmed the movie "My Week With Marilyn", playing Hollywood icon and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. The film depicts the late actress' 1956 film shoot of the movie "The Prince and the Showgirl" in London opposite Sir Laurence Olivier, who is portrayed by Kenneth Branagh and is due to hit theaters in 2011.
