Bristol Palin, the 20-year-old daughter of Republican ex-governor of Alaska Sarah Palin and a recent "Dancing With the Stars" finalist, recently purchased a five-bedroom home in Arizona for $172,000.
The more than 3,900-square-foot, two-level house was built in 2005 and contains 2? baths, a brown tiled roof, a private yard, a patio and a three-car garage. The home was initially purchased for nearly $330,000 after it was built and is located near a community pool, according to past online real estate listings.
The 20-year-old purchased the house by herself on November 10 and paid in cash, property records show. The deal was finalized in early December.
"I'm not sure why she wanted to buy that home, but we are real happy for her," the seller, Michael Smith, told The Arizona Republic newspaper. "She seems like a nice girl. We're excited for her."
Bristol Palin has been a tabloid favorite ever since her mother's 2008 vice presidential campaign. At the time, Bristol Palin was pregnant with her son Tripp out of wedlock. She has since become a teenage pregnancy prevention advocate and has appeared in PSAs for the cause as well as on the ABC Family show "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," which deals with the issue.
Her "Dancing With the Stars" paycheck has not been disclosed but contestants on the ABC ballroom dancing contest series are often paid tens of thousands of dollars to appear on the show.
During her time on its recent 11th season, Bristol Palin was criticized by many viewers who said the popularity or backing of Sarah Palin and the conservative Tea Party movement was the reason she and partner Mark Ballas managed to make it to third place despite having received some of the lowest scores.
Ballas has said supporters voted for them because they identified with her lack of prior dancing experience.
Weeks ago, Keith Olbermann of MSNBC called Bristol Palin "the worst person in the world" because she preaches abstinence to teenagers.
She fired back, saying: "To Mr. Olbermann let me say this: you can attack me all you want," Bristol Palin said on her Facebook page on Thursday. "But you will not stop me from getting my message out about teen pregnancy prevention. And one day, if you ever have a daughter, you may change your mind about me."
