Family left homeless by storm helps the needy

HIGHLAND, Calif. Even though the Wessman family is homeless, they spent Christmas Day serving food to needy families.

Deeana Wessman and her family spent their Christmas morning serving breakfast to the less fortunate in their community.

They handed out basic necessities like socks, toilet paper, jackets and anything they could use during the cold holiday season.

"This is a part of my heart," Wessman said. "Just because my family is going through something doesn't mean no one else is, so I continue to do what I can for other people."

Three days before Christmas, the massive storm that hit the Southland capped the creek behind Wessman's home in Highland. The family lost everything.

Wessman, her five children and her fiancé are staying in a room at her sister's house until they can find a place to rent, but money is tight.
