A car crash in Fullerton caused a power outage and major damage on Sunday night.Authorities said a vehicle hit a power pole on State College Boulevard between Bastanchury Road and Yorba Linda Boulevard just before 11 p.m. The collision severed the power pole at its base and left it dangling by deactivated lines.

Firefighters had to cut the driver out of the wreckage. The 21-year-old motorist was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition. The 20-year-old passenger suffered no injuries.

Investigators said the vehicle, a 2004 Honda S-2000, was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed before it lost control. Police said alcohol or drugs are not suspected as being a factor at this time.

It is unknown when the power will be fully restored. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
