Gunman sought in woman's death on Xmas night

SOUTH LOS ANGELES Kashmier James was getting out of her car on 85th Street and Western Avenue in South Los Angeles when two suspects pulled up in a vehicle, shot and killed her as her 3-year-old daughter sat in the back seat. The girl wasn't hurt.

Police said they have little information to go on. They don't have any solid descriptions of the suspects, only that they were in a dark-colored vehicle

"This is a senseless crime and I am reaching out to the community for your help in finding the people involved in this horrific crime," said James' sister, Amunique Lockhart.

James was arriving to her home from visiting a friend when the suspects opened fire, shooting at least nine rounds. One shot struck James in the head, killing her instantly.

Detectives said the young mother was an innocent victim of gang violence. They said they believe the gunmen were aiming at someone else standing on the sidewalk behind James.

Candles now mark the spot where she was gunned down.

"I still don't believe it," said Deanna Morgan, a friend of James. "Whoever did this, you need to come forward. It was wrong. It's just senseless. Now her daughter has to grow up without a parent."

Mourners continue to add candles to a growing memorial at the scene of the murder.

James' family members said she had recently graduated as a nurse and was proud of getting her license.

Anyone with information is urged to call the /*Los Angeles Police Department*/ at (877) 527-3247.
