9 detained after Sylmar police get bomb tip

SYLMAR, Calif. Police received word there were possible explosives and narcotics inside a home on the 13800 block of Polk Street. Several law enforcement officers and a contingency of bomb squad vehicles surrounded the home, shutting down a portion of the street for much of the night.

LAPD Capt. Joe Hiltner said some houses on either side of the home and to the rear were evacuated.

Police said they found drugs, possible bomb-making material, a rifle with a silencer and a stolen vehicle at the home.

Nine people were taken into custody, including three women and six men. Police said one of the nine will most likely be booked on narcotics and weapons charges.
