Board to vote on new LAUSD superintendent

LOS ANGELES The L.A. Board of Education is expected to vote Tuesday to appoint John Deasy to replace the current superintendent, /*Ramon Cortines*/.

The 78-year-old Cortines is retiring.

The 50-year-old Deasy joined the district in august as Cortines' top deputy.

During his five months in Los Angeles, he's pushed for the controversial use of student test score data as part of a revamped system to evaluate teachers and principals.
