Southeast winter storm causes travel delays

ATLANTA Travelers were urged to check with their airlines about delays and cancelations. The storm canceled more than 2,000 flights and cut power to thousands of residents.

In Atlanta, thousands of passengers are stranded at the world's busiest airport.

The wintry blast is affecting states from Texas to the Carolinas. Flights from Los Angeles International Airport to parts of the Southeast were experiencing delays on Monday.

The winter weather began rolling across the South on Sunday, bringing everything from snow and sleet to freezing rain and ice. Officials in several states reported hundreds of wrecks and urged drivers to stay home.

Icy roads were blamed in separate accidents that killed two people in Louisiana, two in Oklahoma and one each in Kansas and Alabama. Three more drivers were killed in Arkansas when they veered off the pavement.
