OTRC: 'The Great Gatsby' might be made into a 3D film says director - what do you think?

Could the epic tale of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan be told in 3D? Well, it's a possibility according to the upcoming film's director Baz Luhrmann.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Luhrmann was in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show and said that he is considering shooting the film in 3D and has "workshopped" the idea. However, he added that he has not made a final decision about the project.

The film, based off F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel of the same name, will star Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan. Tobey Maguire is expected to play his friend, Nick Carraway, who narrates the story, according to Deadline.com. Luhrmann is known for directing "Romeo + Juliet" and "Moulin Rouge!"

Mulligan's casting was announced in November. "Regarding the role of Daisy Buchanan, I was privileged to explore the character with some of the world's most talented actresses, each one bringing their own particular interpretation," Luhrmann said on his website.

"However, specific to this particular production of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, I was thrilled to pick up the phone an hour ago to the young Oscar-nominated British actress Carey Mulligan and say to her: 'Hello, Daisy Buchanan.'"

Robert Redford played Gatsby, a shady millionaire and Mia Farrow played his character's love interest Buchannan, who Gatsby courted and lost due to their differences in their social statuses, in a 1974 film that was based on a screenplay by Francis Ford Coppola.
