Shakira says she and boyfriend Antonio de la Rua, who is also her manager, have ended their romantic relationship but adds that their split is temporary.
The 33-year-old Colombian singer and de la Rua, the son of a former president of Argentina, had been together for almost 11 years.
"Since August 2010, we made a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship," Shakira said on her website. "We view this period of separation as temporary and as a time of individual growth as we continue to be partners in our business and professional lives."
"Antonio continues to oversee and conduct my business and career interests as he has always done," she added. "We move forward as partners, developing projects together, working hand in hand and in close communication. Our friendship and understanding of one another is unwavering and indestructible."
Shakira and de la Ru are currently together in Paris, the Associated Press reported. The singer has not commented on the pair's whereabouts.
Shakira is known for songs such as " Whenever, Wherever" and "Hips Don't Lie" and appeared last year on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" to promote her single "Loka."
