"The Big Bang Theory" has been renewed by CBS for three more seasons and will air until at least 2014.

The comedy series began in 2007 and is currently on its fourth season. It stars Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki as physicists and Kaley Cuoco as their friend.

Last year, Parsons won an Emmy for his role. The series has been nominated for an Emmy eight times and is up for two Golden Globe nods at Sunday's ceremony, including one for Parsons.

"It doesn't take a theoretical physicist to see why this show is a BIG part of our comedy future," Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. "From ratings to critical acclaim to pop culture buzz, it's struck a chord on all levels."

"The Big Bang Theory" averages 13.89 million viewers and a 4.7 rating among adults aged 18 to 49, according to CBS. The show's cast members, including Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg, recently renegotiated their contracts, The Hollywood Reporter said. The two play the physicists' colleagues.
