OC prosecutors push to have rapist committed

SANTA ANA, Calif. A judge is considering whether 52-year-old Lawrence Brown should be committed indefinitely. The Orange County District Attorney's Office made the request, arguing Brown is too dangerous to remain free.

Brown served 25 years of a 49-year sentence for the abduction and molestation of a 7-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl in two separate incidents in Santa Ana in 1983.

He is now in jail for a parole violation. He is scheduled to be released next month.

A hearing on Friday was continued to Feb. 4.
