Ventura gas station robbery suspect caught

VENTURA, Calif. Ventura police received a 911 call from the gas station clerk at about 10 p.m. Friday reporting that a man had robbed him.

Hugo Flores, who works at the gas station located at 2099 Harbor Blvd., told police that a Hispanic man threatened him with a gun and demanded money, but no gun was ever shown.

Flores said he gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash, and then the suspect fled on foot toward a nearby McDonald's restaurant.

Responding officers later found the suspect running through the parking lot of a Motel 6 on Harbor Boulevard. When Chas Garcia, 50, was apprehended, officers found stolen property from the Shell robbery.

Also, Flores was able to positively identify Garcia as the man who had robbed him.

Officers did not recover a gun from the area where Garcia was arrested. He was booked at the Ventura County Jail for robbery.
