OC officials ask gov't for disaster relief

ORANGE COUNTY

They wrote a letter to /*President Barack Obama*/ asking his administration to declare the county a disaster area to free up federal dollars.

Officials estimate the damage from /*flooding*/ and /*mudslides*/ at $36 million.

Many residents are still out of their homes and recovery work is expected to continue until March.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors issued a state of emergency for the county on Dec. 21.
