5 inmates hurt in Victorville prison fights

VICTORVILLE, Calif. Officials said multiple brawls broke out Friday night in the medium security facility.

Guards were able to calm things down, but five inmates had to be taken to local hospitals.

No staff members were injured.

It's not clear what caused the fights. The prison was placed on lockdown pending an investigation.

The prison holds over 1,200 inmates. It is one of four facilities at the Federal Correctional Complex in Victorville.
