A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy trainee who was shot in the face earlier this month is out of the hospital and back home. Mohamed Ahmed, 27, still faces a long road to recovery.

On Jan. 11, Ahmed and a training officer approached an illegally parked car in East Los Angeles.

Authorities said parolee Nestor Torres, who was in the car, shot Ahmed in the face.

The training officer then shot and killed Torres.

Ahmed underwent three surgeries, including one to save a badly damaged eye.
