OTRC: Ricky Martin talks new album and sets new tour dates

Singer Ricky Martin had a life changing year after coming out of the closet in a blog post in March 2010. This singer, who has since released a memoir called "Me" that details his experiences of coming to grips with his homosexuality as well as his rise to fame, is set to release his six studio album called "MAS (Musica + Alma + Sexo)" on February 1st in both English and in Spanish.

"Everything changed last year. I started writing the book and my mind opened up in a thousand ways. And my need to talk about other things and do other sounds solidified," Martin told Billboard magazine about how his memoir was a catalyst for his new album. "It was a vital pressure that led me to this creative catharsis, for lack of a better word."

He adds, "Within the first 500 words I knew where I stood. It's my way of tearing barriers down and getting rid of a lot of excess baggage I was carrying around. That's why I say that musically we started from scratch. Because lyrically there have to be different texture and nuance."

In mid-January, Martin released the first single for the album "The Best Thing About Me Is You." In the video, the Puerto Rican pop star is topless for much of the video, surrounded by a diverse crowd of attractive young people.

"The most important thing about this album is it's for the audience, but also for musicians. There's great musicianship here," Martin tells the magazine. "You hear what's going on and you try to take it to another level. It's a great time because the melodies that you hear on radio are so rich and they make you feel good."

Martin, who is the father of two-year-old twin sons Matteo and Valentino, who were born to a surrogate mother, is gearing up for a North American tour starting in March.
