The Los Angeles Galaxy signed 16-year-old forward Jack McBean, a homegrown player from the Galaxy academy.

The Newport Beach teen is the youngest player ever to sign for the Galaxy.

McBean will remain at the U.S. Soccer Federation's under-17 residency program at Bradenton, Fla., through qualifying for this summer's FIFA under-17 World Cup, according to a press release.

"He has shown tremendous growth and potential since joining our program and we believe that he this is more than ready to make this next step in his career," said Chris Klein, the Senior Director of the LA Galaxy Academy.

McBean played for Corona del Mar High School.

The Galaxy opens the 2011 MLS season on Tuesday, March 15.
