A new flight plan at John Wayne Airport is steering planes away from homes.

Planes leaving the airport will now follow a new route. The new route follows the outline of upper Newport Bay, shifting departing planes away from a community called "The Bluffs".

Many residents had long complained of loud noises from the jet engines. About 90 flights each day will shift to the new track by next month.
