Charges will not be filed against a firefighter accused of submitting a false report that he was stabbed at a downtown hotel.

On May 18, 2010, Los Angeles city firefighter Charles MacDougall said he was attacked at the Cecil Hotel while assisting someone in distress. He said he was upstairs in a hotel room while his partner was in a paramedic van.

Police searched for months for a suspect, but eventually uncovered inconsistencies in MacDougall's story.

Prosecutors dropped the case due to lack of evidence.

Both firefighters are on paid leave while the investigation continues.
