Julia Roberts is reportedly in talks to play the Evil Queen in the film "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White."
Roberts, 43, has not commented on the report by New York Magazine, which quoted "insiders familiar with the situation" as saying the director of the 3D movie, Tarsem Singh, has long wanted Roberts for the part.
In the fairy tale, which spurred a 1937 animated Disney film, the Evil Queen aims to destroy her stepdaughter after a magic mirror tells her Snow White is the fairest one in the land.
"The Brothers Grimm: Snow White" is due for release in 2012 and is currently in development. A script has been written but a production schedule has not yet been released.
Roberts is best known for her protagonist roles in movies such as "Pretty Woman" and "Erin Brockovich." She recently appeared in the movie "Eat Pray Love" with fellow Oscar winner Javier Bardem and stars with Tom Hanks in the new movie "Larry Crowne," which is set for release on July 1.
Another "Snow White" film adaptation, "Snow White and the Huntsman," also in the works.
"Twilight" actress Kristen Stewart is reportedly being courted for the starring role. "Lord of the Rings" actor Viggo Mortensen may also star and Charlize Theron is reportedly in negotiations to play the Evil Queen.
