Jeremy Renner plans to bring a very special lady with him to the 2011 Academy Awards - his mother.
Valerie Cearley also accompanied her son to the Oscars last year, when Renner was nominated for an award for his role in the war movie "The Hurt Locker." This year, the 40-year-old actor is up for an Oscar for his role in Ben Affleck's film "The Town," which sees the two playing bank robbers.
"She'll be with me again," Renner told OnTheRedCarpet.com, when asked if he is bringing his mother to the February 27 ceremony. "I'm excited to go do that with her. I love my job. I'm not going to lie - it does feel great to get recognized for something you love to do and I've sacrificed my life to do. So it's pretty awesome and I couldn't be more blessed."
Renner is a native of Modesto, California, a town that is home to at least 210,00 people. His mother gave birth to him when she was 18.
"We had a long talk with my mom and her brother, my uncle, talking about if I would've gotten somebody pregnant," Renner said. "I thought, 'What if I had gotten somebody pregnant at 18? What would I be doing right now.' Not that it would be bad, just be different."
Renner also has a side job - he develops, renovates and resells homes, which he says has often paid more than acting.
"I never thought I'd be building houses," he said. "Every day is an adventure to me and I can't wait to see what I can learn the next day."
Meanwhile, Renner is gearing up to play the bow-and-arrow-carrying superhero Hawkeye in the comic book film "The Avengers," directed by Joss Whedon. The movie also stars Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson, who are reprising his role as Iron Man and the Black Widow and Chris Hemsworth. The movie is set for release on May 4, 2012.
Renner is also set to star in "Mission Impossible 4," officially titled "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," alongside Tom Cruise, who reprises his role as super spy Ethan Hunt. The film is due for release in December.
In November 2010, Cruise performed a death-defying stunt that saw him dangling more than 2,700 feet in the air from the Burj Khalifa tower, the world's tallest building in Dubai, while shooting the new "Mission: Impossible" movie, "Ghost Protocol."
"He's just got a lot of energy, that guy," Renner said. "He's tremendously generous and giving. He teaches me a lot. Tom's pushing for (the movie) to be bigger. It's going to be a lot of action. We've got a lot of work to do."
