1 killed, 2 missing after Australia storm

CAIRNS, Australia

Police said the 23-year-old man who died suffocated because of fumes from a generator.

The monstrous cyclone flung boats from the sea like toys, leaving them in jumbled piles. The storm flattened dozens of houses and ripped roofs and walls from hundreds more. It cut power to thousands of homes and shredded hundreds of millions of dollars worth of banana and sugar cane crops.

The Category 5 storm slammed into the northeastern coast on Wednesday as thousands huddled in evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, thousands of troops arrived Friday to help with the massive cleanup and a ship loaded with food and supplies was on its way.
