Hundreds ride for lowrider pioneer's funeral

February 5, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
Hundreds gathered in East Los Angeles on Saturday to honor one of the pioneers of the lowrider culture.

Car clubs from around Southern California turned out to pay final respects to Jesse Valadez, who died last week at age 64.

A founding member of the Imperials Car Club in the 1960s, Valadez created what many consider the world's most famous lowrider, a pink Chevy Impala nicknamed the "Gypsy Rose."

The car, which has appeared in movies and TV shows, rode atop a flatbed truck behind the hearse carrying Valadez.
