UC and Cal State lobbying for tax extension

The chancellors of the UC and Cal State University systems are lobbying for a voter approved tax extension.

The chancellors of the UC and Cal State University systems are lobbying for a voter approved tax extension in an effort to avoid more student fee hikes.

Nearly $1.5 billion in state budget cuts are already proposed for higher education. Universities and community colleges would lose even more money if voters do not approve the tax extension Governor Jerry Brown wants to put on the June ballot.

Fees were already raised last year. The chancellors say they aren't planning any new increases this year, but can't keep that promise if the extension is not approved.
