Matthew Perry returns to TV in 'Mr. Sunshine'

LOS ANGELES

He plays a man whose work life finds him at the center of intense madness every day as the manager of a large sports and special events arena.

As for his personal life, he's the kind of guy who's spent his life being a bit too self absorbed, but he's come to realize it's never too late to change.

"The idea of sort of a narcissistic, selfish guy who right away is going to try to better himself in a sea of all this strangeness that's happening every day, I think that's sort of new," said Perry.

"Also, you know, the adage you write what you know. That's what I know, that transition from being a selfish jerk to not so bad a guy."

The 'frantic' character works for Perry, who's most known for his role as Chandler Bing in the TV series "Friends."

"I read something written somewhere about 'Mr. Sunshine' that I do a comedic self loathing extremely well. So I took that as sort of a compliment and then I had to go rethink my entire life,"

"/*Mr. Sunshine*/" joins ABC's Wednesday comedy lineup at 9:30 p.m.
